Symposium in ‘Corporate Social Responsibility, bringing the stakeholders together’, April 3, 2014 – Kolkata

A Symposium on “Corporate Social Responsibility – Bringing the Stakeholders Together” hosted by U.S. Consulate – Kolkata and USAID in association with Bengal Chamber of Commerce and supported by Amcham Eastern Chapter, was organized on April 3, 2014.

The event brought together development agencies, foundations and corporates on a common platform to discuss the scope of CSR activities and to explore further opportunities of partnerships.

Mr Diptarag Bhattacharjee, Vice President East, Amway India, who was part of the panel at the discussion highlighted Amcham Eastern Chapter’s CSR events and also mentioned initiatives by Amway.

 

Mr Bhattacharjee spoke about the Blood Donation drive on March 31, 2014 and also the awareness programs and discussions on Saving the Kolkata Wetlands. He said that the US companies operating in India have CSR activities focused on improving social infrastructure, promoting education, improving the quality of life of farmers, water conservation and replenishment, rain water harvesting, environment up-gradation, building healthcare capacity, women upliftment and disaster relief programs to name a few.

 

These initiatives have made significant impact in terms of indirect job creation, growth of private equity funding, improving the livelihood standards of rural communities and reducing the knowledge gap, thus contributing towards Indian society at large.
