Roundtable on U.S. Business and Ease of Doing Business in the Eastern Region with Mr. Robert Garverick, Minister Counselor for Economic, Environment, Science and Technology Affairs, U.S. Embassy
AMCHAM’s Eastern Region hosted a roundtable discussion with Mr. Robert Garverick, Minister Counselor for Economic, Environment, Science and Technology Affairs, U.S. Embassy in Kolkata on January 25th, 2018. Mr. Joydeep Datta Gupta, Eastern Region Executive Committee Member, AMCHAM and Partner, Deloitte Touché Tohmatsu India LLP welcomed Mr. Garverick. AMCHAM members briefed Mr. Garverick on the presence of American companies in the region and on the opportunities and challenges of doing business in West Bengal and Eastern India, touching on issues like availability of land, labor, and the general investment climate in the region. Members present spoke about Bengal being a resource for well-educated talent in India and abroad. They endorsed the rating by the central government that Bengal has been positioned as the leading state on ease of doing business in India. Members also discussed challenges related to IPR protection in software, amongst others.
