Interactive Session with West Bengal Government
AmCham members held an interactive session with the visiting Government delegation from West Bengal led by Dr. Amit Mitra, Minister-in-Charge of Finance, Excise, Commerce & Industries, Public Enterprise, Industrial Reconstruction, Commerce and Industry, Government of West Bengal, alongwith the Principal Secretary Urban Development Mr. Debashish Sen, Principal Secretary S. Kishore, Department of Commerce & Industries, Resident Commissioner Mr. R.D Meena, and Dr. Krishna Gupta, Managing Director, WBIDC. The program focused on understanding the approach and programs of the West Bengal Government towards developing Smart Cities and related infrastructure projects. Dr. Mitra and his colleagues shared important updates in these areas especially on the State Govt’s plan for developing six theme -based cities along with the announced four smart cities, as allocated to West Bengal under the centrally announced Smart Cities program. A detailed discussion was held and participating U.S. companies offering solutions and technologies under the various verticals of Smart Cities, expressed a desire to have a consultative program which focused purely on Smart cities, with the Urban Development Department of West Bengal, under the AmCham platform.
Dr. Mitra also suggested that an IT & ITES focused Investors meet is to be scheduled in Bangalore shortly, where US companies’ participation, through AmCham, was welcome. The program details will be worked out in consultation with the West Bengal Government and a program agenda is to be worked out accordingly. Additionally, it was also proposed to have AmCham member companies participate as Summit Partners under a common pavilion, in the upcoming West Bengal Global Business Summit (7-9 January 2016). The discussion outcomes from this meeting will be actioned in the coming weeks and a follow up on the proposed programs is underway.
