Interaction with Mr. Thomas R. Hardy, Director (Acting), United States Trade and Development Agency
AMCHAM hosted an interaction with Mr. Thomas R. Hardy, Director (Acting), United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) on August 21st in New Delhi for energy sector members. Mr. Hardy was accompanied by Mr. Jeffrey Phillips, Country Manager – Indo Pacific and Ms. Mehnaz Ansari, Representative, India, South and Southeast Asia. The USTDA leadership informed participants of its focus on the Indo-Pacific region and its catalytic role in the broad based economic development of the region under the leadership of American companies. Energy would be a priority sector for the agency and funding for the Indo-Pacific region was expected to increase by 50% in the future. India is currently their largest program for USTDA. Reverse trade missions, which showcase production facilities of American companies in the U.S. was an important service of the agency. Ms. Preetha Nair, Chairperson – Energy Committee, AMCHAM, provided a short context and background to the sub-sectors of energy covered in the agenda, this was followed by lively interaction on the opportunities, challenges and possible solutions covering bio-fuels, refining and petrochemicals, energy storage, renewables, EVs, digital solutions, water management, carbon capture, coal and LNG. Given the importance of energy to the agency in India, the interaction ended on a very positive note.
