The Union budget 2016 placed a renewed focus on the farm sector in a bid to revive agriculture growth and improve farm incomes at a time when rural India is going through a protracted period of distress. AMCHAM decided to align its focus with that of the Indian Government.
Accordingly, during the AGM, there were two panel discussion on Agriculture and Food Processing and Infrastructure. Members found the discussion on Agriculture and Food Processing useful and realized the great potential this sector had for growth. Subsequently, The National Executive Board of AMCHAM, at its meeting held on 22nd April 2016 in New Delhi, decided to set up a Committee on Agriculture and Food Processing to explore the potential for U.S. companies in the Agriculture and food processing sectors.
This Committee will meet regularly to discuss developments in their respective industry sectors, prepare position papers on issues impacting U.S. business in India, engage with political leadership and Government officials on policies and procedures announced from time to time, make representations to Indian Government, and plan activities for knowledge sharing and sharing of best practices.
