On August 19, Amcham Kolkata hosted an interactive session followed by lunch to welcome Dean R. Thompson, U.S. Consul General, Kolkata. This was the first public event that the Consul General participated in since his arrival in Kolkata early August. Mr. Thompson told the members that he was looking forward to working closely with Amcham. He emphasized on the importance of Amcham's role as a friend and partner for the U.S. Consulate and the American companies doing business in Kolkata. Mr. Thompson introduced members of his team who also attended. Judy Reinke, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs, Richard Craig, Foreign Commercial Officer, Tad Brown, Political and Economic Officer and John Walsh, Regional Security Officer. Mr. Walsh will be addressing companies concerning the formation of an Overseas Security Advisory Council. OSACs, as they are referred to around the world, is an excellent, business-led resource and a way for US companies to exchange information about security issues that they otherwise might try to counter alone. Ms. Reinke spoke on the importance of networking of Foreign Commercial Service with Amcham at Delhi and all the regional office as one team to enhance collective and individual perspectives on influencing policies in the US, Government of India and the regional states.
