Interactive Session on Direct Taxes Code Bill, 2009

Amcham along with BBG and EBG and supported by Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and Ernst & Young, organized an Interactive Session on the Direct Tax Code Bill, 2009 on 9th September 2009 in New Delhi.

In the morning session, Mr. Atul Dhawan, Chairman, Tax & Tariff Committee, Amcham India and Partner, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt. Ltd. gave his opening observations and introduced the theme. Thereafter, presentations were made as follows:

Individual Taxes and Capital Gains by Mr. Amitabh Singh, Partner - Tax & Regulatory Services, Ernst & Young

Corporate Taxation by Mr. Sanjiv Chaudhary, Executive Director, PwC

International Taxation by Mr. Uday Ved, Executive Director & Head of Tax, KPMG

Anti-Avoidance Rules by Mr. Rohinton Sidhwa, Partner, Deloitte Haskins & Sells

This was followed by interaction from the floor.

In the afternoon, a Panel Discussion was held. This was chaired and moderated by Mr. Atul Dhawan. The panelists included Mr. P.V. Bhide, Revenue Secretary, GOI; Mr. Arbind Modi, Joint Secretary (TPL-I), CBDT; Mr. Ashutosh Dikshit, Joint Secretary (TPL-II), CBDT; Mr. Kapil Trikha, COO, Morgan Stanley India and Mr. Amit Rana, Vice President (Taxes), GE India.

Members from Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai participated through concall. A lively discussion took place and the Government officials responded to all the queries. They requested Amcham to send their inputs at the earliest.
