20th Aug 2008: CSR Breakfast Meet with Ms. Goli Ameri


Ms. Goli Ameri, Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs leads the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), which fosters mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries around the world. She was in Bangalore to gain a better understanding of the local business environment with a focus on Corporate Responsibility Programs of local businesses.

The Meet was well attended by AmCham Members active in CSR initiatives. While most companies shared that their focus was 1. Education 2. Healthcare and 3. Environment. Each member present elaborated on their thrust in these areas, while some members shared on initiatives in other areas as well, such as Education in Safety / Fire / Electrical etc. Mr. Murali shared the AmCham Bangalore initiative of Blood Donation Drive.

Ms. Ameri then elaborated that the focus of their visit was on Education, promoting "The English Language Micro Scholarship Program". She added that while they are a "Funds granting Cell" , they are not a Trust. They were seeking suitable companies to ally with towards establishing the teaching of English language, beyond the curriculum hours, for non-elite underserved children bet 14-18 yrs of age.
