Interactive Discussion Over Tea with CG Thomas Vajda – 5th November 2015

Members of AmCham’s Western Region Committee met with the U.S. Consul General Mr. Thomas Vajda and senior representatives from the commercial section as well as the econ and political section of the U.S. Consulate in Mumbai on Thursday, 5th November 2015. The meeting aimed to discuss significant initiatives and outcomes of the U.S. – India Strategic & Commercial Dialogue, the CEO Forum and to explore synergies and opportunities of partnership with AmCham India.

The meeting began with a welcome address by CG Tom Vajda. Ms. Camille Richardson, Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Commercial Service shared a brief on the commercial law development programme and stressed the U.S. government’s involvement in the strategic planning of smart cities in India. The interest for the U.S. government in joining hands with civil society and authorities in helping to develop India’s digital infrastructure, water management and health policies, the need to bring India’s supply chain infrastructure system on par with international standards and custom mapping to help identify the country’s economic strengths were also discussed. The need to create an efficient and inclusive ethos that improves the investment climate and monitor ease of doing business were also touched upon.

It was decided that through the numerous meetings and initiatives by AmCham at both the regional and industry sectoral levels, AmCham members will identify core areas and challenges to present them to top level government officials with the support of the U.S. consulate.

Potential opportunities for the U.S. consulate partnering with AmCham to organize smart city events, government to business meetings, consulate advocacy, AGM co-ordination and social media collaboration were discussed. CG Tom Vajda kindly accepted to host a joint reception at the consulate premise for AmCham’s Western Region members in early 2016.

Surabhi Wahal, Director- Western Region AmCham India, shared a short presentation on AmCham’s Western Region, its statistics in membership numbers, industry segmentation as well as select company profiles as an indicator on the regional representation.

CG Tom Vajda concluded by thanking AmCham and the members of the Western Region Committee for the highly engaging interactive session and looks forward to a positive and progressive future.
