On 7th September, AMCHAM hosted an interactive session with Mr. Gilbert Kaplan, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce in New Delhi. Mr. Krish Iyer, Chairman, AMCHAM and President & CEO, Walmart India, made opening remarks and welcomed the delegation. Under Secretary Kaplan gave brief remarks on the recent trade talks and mentioned that India was the 11th largest trade partner for the U.S. Members discussed trade related challenges across sectors, healthcare, Make in India, transfer of technology, exports, tariffs, medical devices, trade margin rationalization and standards, among other topics. AMCHAM offered to support the upcoming U.S. – India Commercial Dialogue and CEO Forum in any way possible. Under Secretary Kaplan was accompanied by Mr. John Cooney, Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary, Mr. Joseph Laroski, Senior Advisor to the Under Secretary, Ms. Diane Farrell, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia, Ms. Noor Sclafani, International Trade Specialist, Ms. Aileen Nandi, Acting Senior Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy and Mr. Darrel Ching, Principal Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy.
